an･y･bod･y /nibi, -bi | -bdi, -bdi/→ [肯定文で用いて] だれでも 《★anybody は anyone よりややくだけた言い方; cf. nobody》 ･Anybody can do that. だれでもそれくらいできる ･It's anybody's game [race]. それは勝敗の予想のつかないゲーム[競走]だ. [否定文で用いて] だれも ･I haven't seen anybody. だれにも会っていない ･I don't want anybody to disturb me. だれにも邪魔されたくない. [疑問文･条件節で用いて] だれか ･Does anybody know? だれか知っているか ･If you see anybody there, please bring them to my place. もしそこでだれかに会ったら私の所へ連れてきてください. 【語法】 (1) anybody は単数形であり he [him, his] で受けるのが普通であるが, they [them, their, etc.] では性別を男性で代表しなくてもよいので, 最近多く用いられる :If 〜 calls, would you take down their [his] name? (もし電話が来たら名前を書き留めておいてください). (2) 否定構文で anybody を用いる場合は, 否定語を先行させる. 従って, There wasn't 〜 there. (＝Nobody was there. そこにはだれもいなかった)と言うことはできるが, A wasn't there. と言うことはできない. nybody's guss ⇒guess . 多少重きを置かれる人, ひとかどの人間 ･Is he anybody? 彼は名のある人か ･If you want to be anybody, …. ひとかどの人間と言われたいのなら….
